Working Group on Effective Treaty Implementation (WGETI)

Overview

The Working Group on Effective Treaty Implementation (WGETI) was established by the Second Conference of States Parties to the ATT in 2016 and became a standing Working Group of the Conference by decision of the Third Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty in 2017.


Chairs

The following persons have served as Chairs of the WGETI:

  • CSP2: Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior, of Switzerland, and Ambassador Elayne Whyte Gómez, of Costa Rica
  • CSP3: Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior, of Switzerland
  • CSP4: Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior, of Switzerland
  • CSP5: Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior, of Switzerland
  • CSP6:  Ambassador Jang-Keun LEE, of the Republic of Korea / Ambassador Sang-beom LIM, of the Republic of Korea

  • CSP7: Ambassador Sang-beom LIM, of the Republic of Korea
  • CSP8: Ambassador Sang-beom LIM, of the Republic of Korea


Sub-working groups

During CSP4, the WGETI Chair established three Sub-working groups of the WGETI to focus on specific areas of Treaty implementation, and facilitators were appointed for the Sub-working groups as follows:

  • Article 5 (General Implementation): Mr. Leonard Tettey, of Ghana (CSP4 and CSP5)
  • Articles 6 & 7: (Prohibitions, Export and Export Assessment): Mr. Daniel Nord, of Sweden, followed by Ms. Ulf LINDELL of Sweden (CSP4 and CSP5) / Ambassador Ignacio SÁNCHEZ DE LERÍN of Spain (CSP6, CSP7 and CSP8)
  • Article 11 (Diversion): Mr. Damien Chifley of Australia, followed by Ms. Tina Matheson, of Australia (CSP4) / Ms. Samantha ALLEN of Jamaica (CSP5) / Ms. Stela PETROVIC of Serbia (CSP6, CSP7 and CSP8)

CSP5 decided the work of the Sub-working group on Article 5 (General Implementation) had come to an end, and established the following Sub-working Group:

  • Article 9 (Transit and trans-shipment): General Implementation): Mr. Rob WENSLEY of South Africa (CSP6, CSP7 and CSP8)
