Gender Based Violence & the ATT - a legal perspective
Control Arms is facilitating a side event that seeks to inform the discussions and support the WGETI’s work around the implementation of the gender-based violations (GBV) criteria in the Arms Trade Treaty.
In particular, side event seeks to provide more clarity on how GBV is considered under International Humanitarian Law and International human Rights Law.
The International Human Rights clinic from Harvard Law School will introduce an extended version of the paper ‘Q&A Answer Sheet - Serious Human Rights Violations and Gender-Based Violence and the ATT’ that was circulated during the January ATT Working Group meetings.
The ICRC will introduce their new working paper ‘International Humanitarian Law and Gender-Based Violence in the context of the ATT’.
The purpose of both papers is to assist states in conducting the assessments required in articles 6 & 7 of the ATT.
A speaker from WILPF will also explore the Women, Peace and Security Agenda as it relates to gender, and the incorporation of gender into peace and security, from a legal perspective.
